On a dreary & rainy day

Cucumber plant getting a tan
When the weather is somewhere between miserable and nasty I sometimes find myself either worrying needlessly or worrying for a rationale reason, but either way it's still worrisome -- and that certainly can't be too healthy.  Today I worried about hail because there was hail reported all over the area, and as you might guess, dodging ice balls is not a plant's favorite sport... they tend to prefer more sedate activities (like tanning, or slowly wrapping themselves around things).

To get my mind off the ugly possibilities I started thinking about how to make a nice edging for a plant bed.  While I have never used lumber for such a purpose before (I tend to dislike straight lines), I decided that it was probably time to recycle an old play-set that we had taken down as the 4 x 4's still seemed to be in good shape -- recycling is a major part of our activities as frugality has lately become a watchword in this poor economy. As I expect it to be raining for most of the week, it sure looks like carpentry in the garage will be the primary effort for the next few days.

Here's a few more pics:

those bushes sure look ugly this year... what will we do?
