This is the first year that we have noticed brilliant fuchsia blossoms on one of our trees. It's a rather large tree and it was here long before we arrived at this location, so of course, we haven't got a clue as to what type of tree this is. What we do know is that the caterpillars seem to love this tree; so every year my wife hand-makes a long torch to burn them into their next life (sorry, no pictures of that yet).
It would really be nice to know what we having growing here... feel free to let us know if you are up on these things. In the meantime, here are a few photos of these buds in bloom:
